kitchen on wheels

the first seeds were sown in the gardens at shamrock five years ago, inspired by the likes of alice water's edible schoolyard.  it was the gardens that sealed the deal in deciding shamrock was right for us.

one of the pta goals for the upcoming year is to further incorporate the garden experience into the classroom curriculum and develop a relationship with area chefs to show students what to do with the food that they have just grown.  and here is where our pta involvement begins.

a few phone calls, emails and facebook messages resulted in a starting team of chefs willing to lend their expertise (thanks guys).  now, we need to give them the tools they need to cook.  we decided to put together a kitchen on wheels that could move from classroom to classroom.  we hope to have the cart fully stocked for fall harvests.  and here is where we beg for equipment to build our kitchen.

so to start out we need:
  • (1) Utility cart (IKEA FLYTTA $159)
  • (1) Set of metal bowls
  • (1) Sauté pan - 10' thick bottom, suitable for induction cooking*
  • (1) Cast iron skillet
  • (2) Pots - 3-4q heavy bottom saucepan, suitable for induction cooking*
  • (1) Stock pot
  • (2) Cutting boards
  • (1) Colander
  • (3) Knives - one each chef, utility, paring
  • (2) Tongs, nonstick ends
  • (2) Spatulas - one flat, one rubber
  • (2) Wooden kitchen spoons - one slotted
  • (1) Box grater/slicer
  • (1) Liquid measuring cup - 2 cup Pyrex
  • (1) Set of measuring spoons
  • (1) Set of measuring cups (stainless)
  • (2) Half sheet pans
  • (2) Half hotel pans
  • (1) Pyrex casserole dish (smaller square)
  • (1) Vegetable peeler
  • (1) Whisk
  • (6) Kitchen towels
*our induction cooktop works with only certain types of metal - anything a magnet will stick to

Please let me know if you can help cross any items off this list and get our cart rolling this fall!
